As the cold draws in and more people find themselves without shelter from the bitter Winter air, we decided it’s time for our next Craft for Care project. This time, we are putting our crochet, knitting and odds bits of wool to good use and creating some warmth for the homeless. No one should have to face living on the streets at this time of year, but sadly they do, and we want to help in any way we can. As Crafters, the best way we know how is to use our needles, hooks and hands to Craft for Care.
As part of our mission, we have partnered with Shelter. They help millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness. Putting our needles together, hopefully, we can help raise awareness and bring a little bit of warmth across the UK’s cold winter.
So, what can you do?
If you can knit, or crochet, we need you! We are looking for volunteers that can spare a little time to help us make as many hats and gloves as we possibly can. All you need is old bits of wool, and a little bit of your time, that you don’t mind giving up for a well-deserved cause. We will provide you with the patterns you need and help you with any questions you might have.
If you want to help, you can download the guide here:
What if I want to help, but have no clue how to crochet?
Well, that’s okay too. We still need you! We have created a JustGiving page that you can find here. All donations will go direct to Shelter. Plus, for every donation of £5 or more, we will make a hat. Once the donation has been made, we will get creating and send the goods to a local homeless charity, so they can distribute the hats to those that need them. We will include a little note saying “donated by ….”. Just make sure you label your donation so we know who it is from!
What do I do once I’ve donated?
Share your donation with others! Let people know what you have done, tagging us @thecraftyco and using the hashtag #CraftForCare. The more awareness we can raise, the more people we can help!
We are always blown away by the support we receive for our Crafts for Care and want to thank you in advance for everything!
